The Detroit Public Schools Foundation is pleased to welcome Katherine Sorofman as our new philanthropy intern. Katherine is a first year graduate student in the School of Social Work at the University of Michigan. She will spend two days per week working with Foundation staff as she learns about, and develops skills in the world of philanthropy.
In her role as an intern, Katherine will visit DPS high schools educating students on the scholarship opportunity open to them through the Detroit College Promise, researching funding opportunities, and writing grant proposals on behalf of the Foundation.
Katherine comes to us with experience as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Rwanda, Africa, and a Shelter Services Advocate in Iowa City, Iowa. She is interested in community organizing and development, working with economically and socially disenfranchised groups. Her unique background also includes 10 years of training in martial arts.
