We are greatly honored to be selected by Illitch Charities as one of three recipients of $100,000 gifts. This donation will help fund the district’s four Career Technical Educations Centers to improve educational programming, and career training to high school students throughout the Detroit Public Schools Community District.
Other awardees include Hatch Detroit by TechTown and the Eastern Market Partnership, impressive organizations focused on our city’s innovative revitalization. The fact that the Foundation was included with these forward-thinking community groups speaks to how integral we are in helping shape Detroit’s future.
In addition to the CTE donation, Ilitch Charities also donated $80,000 to support a new sound system at Renaissance High School!
Why This Gift Matters
Career and Technical Education can have a profound impact, including increased graduation rates and building bridges that enable students to confidently pursue post-secondary education after high school. A long term study also revealed that, for each year of CTE, students realized a 2% increase in wages over time.
As a community, we have a shared responsibility to prepare our youth for the jobs of the future, and gifts like this from Illitch Charities are instrumental in helping us do that.
