Detroit Public Schools Community District Foundation, alongside Michigan Central, have created an opportunity for Western International High School upcoming juniors (2024- 2025 school year) through graduating seniors (Class of 2024) pursuing or working in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, or Math (STEAM) education and/or enrichment.
Michigan Central endeavors to jump start something meaningful and impactful for Detroit’s scholars that are entering a university, community college, vocational school, after-school programming, or enrichment opportunity. Scholars can apply for up to $10,000 for tuition and fees. Funds will be disbursed on a rolling basis as needed.
Application Requirements:
- Western International High School Student class of 2024, 2025, and 2026
- Proof of residency. Must reside in the footprint of Michigan Central Station, which includes Hubbard Richard, Corktown, and North Corktown.
- A letter of recommendation by DPSCD teacher, counselor, or principal
- Most recent report card with attendance record. No GPA requirement.
- Acceptance letter, program registration or enrollment confirmation.
- Students will be required to submit a 1-page APA formatted essay explaining:
- What sparked your interest in STEAM?
- How will you benefit from the program?
- What are your future endeavors in STEAM?
All documents need to be submitted in PDF format.
All scholarships funds will be distributed to the institute directly.
