We were recently invited to participate in two illuminating and inspiring community events.

President Mitchell was invited to  join a distinguished panel for The Soul of Philanthropy’s discussion on Black Giving and Education. She was able to share her expertise on philanthropy and fundraising, focusing on how vital it is to promote equitable education. Other panelists included Machion Jackson (DPSCD), Brandon Lane (Black Male Educators Alliance), Djeneba Cherif (University Prep Schools), Kathie Caruth (Pontiac Public Schools), and Dexter Mays (DPS), who offered a wealth of knowledge and experience that President Mitchell plans to incorporate into the Foundation’s revisioning process.

Next, President Mitchell and students from the Detroit International Academy for Women of DPSCD were invited by host Carol Cain to attend the Detroit Free Press Breakfast Club Series. US Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm was the keynote speaker, and she discussed Michigan’s future in the energy sector. A major highlight was when our students had the opportunity to ask Secretary Granholm questions about energy efficiency.

Thank you to Nikia Washington, Collin Mays, and Carol Cain for including us in these wonderful events. We look forward to meeting more of you out in the community!
