We’re pleased to announce that lifelong Detroiter, Martin Luther King Jr. High School alumna, and non-profit maven Kerrie Mitchell will be joining the Detroit Public Schools Foundation as President and CEO, beginning on March 1st!

Over the past seven years, Pamela Moore has guided the development and implementation of a variety of internal processes, specifically to help grow the foundation and ensure that it will thrive. We are incredibly grateful for her dedication and hard work, and we wish her the best as she begins a new chapter as a partner in The Vella Group.

“We’re thrilled that Kerrie is joining the team,” shares Board Chair Beth Correa. “Her extensive experience with fundraising, marketing, grant management and communications will enable us to build upon Pamela’s great work and further strengthen our deep relationship with the Detroit Public Schools Community District.”

Ms. Mitchell began her career in journalism and radio broadcasting, but quickly pivoted into communications and marketing for community-oriented organizations. She first worked in communications with the Detroit Police Athletic League and then moved into marketing, communications, and public relations for Boy Scouts of America Michigan Crossroads Council. Most recently, she was the EVP of Strategy, Development, Marketing for Matrix Human Services.

“Kerrie has been an exceptional leader during her years at Matrix Human Services,“ said Matrix Chief Executive Officer Brad Coulter. “We look forward to working with her in her new position for the betterment of all our Detroit students, particularly those at risk and in the deepest need for human services and resources.”

“With her proven track record of connecting families and community, Kerrie will be a tremendous asset to the Detroit Public Schools Foundation, as well as the District itself,” notes Superintendent Dr. Nikolai Vitti. “We look forward to enhancing our partnership to strategically bring more resources to students and families in order to help families overcome the challenges that contribute to student absenteeism.”

Our Chief Administrative Officer, Yesenia Roman-Murphy, has stepped up as interim President until Ms. Mitchell begins in March.

Please join us in warmly welcoming Kerrie to the Detroit Public Schools Foundation family!
