DPSF grant of $6k supports Montessori’s literacy programming
As part of the Detroit Public Schools Foundation’s Cycle III Grants, Palmer Park Preparatory Academy, a Montessori school located in the heart of Detroit’s University District, received $6,000 in funds to help expand their literacy programming.
Palmer Park supports nearly 430 students spanning PreK through 8th grade, offering a wall-to-wall Montessori approach to education. The academy’s classrooms take a child-centered approach, enabling students to make creative choices, discover, and explore knowledge in collaborative groups. The DPSF grant will support the school’s literacy programming through the expansion of their software, technology, books, and related supplies.
“We love that the Detroit Public School Community District offers Montessori educational opportunities to our students,” exclaims DPSF’s President and CEO Kerrie Mitchell. “Montessori is often limited to private schooling, and out of reach for many members of our community. Through our investments in Palmer Park’s literacy programming, we’re demonstrating our commitment to inclusive and expansive educational opportunities for all of Detroit’s kids.”
