To our DPSCD Community,
Happy first day of the 2024-25 school year! I want to extend a warm and enthusiastic welcome back to all of our students, parents, faculty, and administrators for a brand new year of learning, growth, and endless opportunity. This day marks the beginning of a new chapter filled with promise, where our collective efforts will continue to shape the future for our students and our city.
At the Detroit Public Schools Community District Foundation, our mission is to ensure every student has the resources and support they need to achieve excellence — and we are proud of the work we do to make that happen. Our foundation plays a critical role in empowering our students and supporting their education in meaningful ways.
As we celebrate the start of the new academic year, here are some of the key initiatives and contributions we’re making to ensure our students’ success.
Enhancing Health and Well-Being: Health Hubs
We recognize that true academic success extends beyond the classroom. Our Health Hubs, strategically located at five high schools throughout the district, provide essential behavioral, mental, and physical health services, ensuring our students have the stability and support they need to thrive. By maintaining and expanding these services, we reaffirm our belief that a healthy student is not just a better student, but a successful one.
Expanding Opportunities: Dual Enrollment
This year, we’re also excited to continue our support for the Dual Enrollment program, which enables students to earn both a high school diploma and an associate degree simultaneously. By partnering with esteemed institutions such as Wayne State University, Wayne County Community College District, Lawrence Technological University, the University of Michigan-Dearborn, and the University of Detroit Mercy, we are breaking down barriers to higher education.
Our commitment to this program is about more than just academic advancement; it’s about providing our students with the skills and credentials to thrive in their future careers, while helping them avoid the financial burden of student debt.
These initiatives are just a glimpse of the work we’re doing to support our students and the broader DPSCD community. As we embark on this new school year, let us continue to work together — students, parents, educators, and partners alike — to create an environment where every student can rise and achieve their fullest potential.
With best wishes for a wonderful year,
