Nationally renowned Arts and Academic High School is a community gem
Through their highly integrated blend of college preparatory academic and arts curriculum with pre-professional study in Vocal Music, Instrumental Music, Music Technology, Dance, Theater, Speech, Radio/Television production, Visual Arts and Visual Communications, the Detroit School of Arts is a vibrant member of the Detroit Public Schools Community District.
With an annual graduation rate of 98%, the school enhances their arts programming with advanced placement curriculum, successfully preparing graduates for an internationally competitive society. As part of their studies, student arts and music groups have performed around the world, including twice at Carnegie Hall. Detroit School of Arts was once named as one of the Best High Schools in the nation by Newsweek.
Their $5,000 grant by the Detroit Public School Foundation will specifically support the development of a visual arts graphics project. “DSA will use the funds to purchase equipment such as a t-shirt press, large format printer, and flash dryer,” notes Kerrie Mitchell, DPSF’s President and CEO. “We’re excited to see the creative and artistic works that these students will have the opportunity to produce as part of this new program.”
