Grant Highlight

March 31, 2016

From March 31 through April 2 the Michigan Opera Theater will host the American Ballet Theater’s production of Sleeping Beauty. This dance series has captured the attention of the entire community as the result of Misty Copeland’s appearance on the MOT stage. As the first principal ballerina of African American heritage for the American Ballet theater, she serves as a role model for many aspiring dancers in our schools.

The DPS Foundation is pleased to be able to support the dreams and aspirations of young dancers in Detroit Public Schools with a grant to the Michigan Opera Theater for teaching artists in the schools. Dancers from the Dance theater of Harlem and American Ballet theater will present master classes at the Detroit School of Arts. Additionally, students will be able to attend a performance of ABT’s Sleeping Beauty.

Our ability to enhance the education of these students through these in and outside of class experiences is a reward that we value.
